Bedside Table
You know that feeling when you look at a piece of furniture and you suddenly wonder if you could hoist it out the window as a handy excuse to replace it? Yeah, me neither...
I've had a vision for the dream master bedroom for a long time. This is one of a few projects I've got up my sleeve for reviving our bedroom.
Supplies
- Rust-Oleum Chalk paint in Chiffon Cream
- Foam brushes
- 220-grit sandpaper
Prep
Once I got all the hardware off, I assessed what I had to work with. The tops of these tables weren't actually wood. More like that cheap pressboard. So all the water rings were raised from the moisture swelling the material within.
When I started sanding, I quickly realized that I wasn't going to be able to stain the top and I'd need to paint it to cover up the faux wood. No worries, I had a plan!
Once I had a few coats of the chalk paint applied to the base, I went over the whole thing lightly with the 220-grit sandpaper. Once it was smooth, I distressed the piece in random places, as well as the edges and corners to give it that lived in look (so predictable, I know! haha).
You can see here the after and before (what a color!).
What I ended up doing for the top was a nice chocolate paint color and a few coats of a matte polyurethane. I used enough polyurethane that any sweaty water glasses in our humid summers won't scar the top anymore.
All done!
Not bad for a weekend project!
